Winder Angoras and Alpacas

Winder Angoras and Alpacas is run by Reg and Gill Scott at The Oaks between Camden and Picton.  We started in Australia in April 2004 after moving from the U K where Reg worked in agricultural education.  Reg has a strong background in animal production and farm management.

Our aim is to breed top quality animals producing fine high quality natural fibre from animals fed on grass supplemented with cereals.   A strong emphasis is placed on the care and management of the animals resulting in healthy productive stock which are responsive and easy to handle.

Angora Goats

We have been breeding and showing Angora goats for 20 years and alpacas since 2004. We have a stud of 15-20 Angora does breeding stud animals which we show at local and national agricultural shows.  The goats are shorn twice per year in February and August.  Standard quality fleeces are sold through the Australian Mohair Marketing Organisation with finer and longer fleeces sold to local spinners and craft workers.  Surplus breeding stock are available each year along with castrated males for pets or meat.

Alpacas

Since starting with 3 alpacas in 2004, the numbers have built up through breeding; they give birth each year after an 11½ months pregnancy and are shorn once per year in the spring.  Castrated males make excellent guards or pets.  The alpaca fibre from the first two years shearing is excellent quality for spinners and weavers.
